Carol Bulmer Recieves USDF Silver Medal

The United States Dressage Federation awarded Carol Bulmer the Silver Medal this month. A Silver Medal Is Awarded To Riders Who Achieve Two Scores Of 60% Or Better At Fourth Level And Two Scores of 60% or better at Prix St. Georges at recognized competitions. “I am very proud of our achievement” Bulmer stated “Thanks to “Strutt” and her owner George Daher I have the opportunity to start working towards competiting at the Intermediare and Grand Prix levels!”

Congratulations to Carol Bulmer and Strutt!

George Daher’s 15 Yr Old Hanoverian Mare “Strutt” was a Shining Star at the Clarcona Horseman’s Park during the Heidleburg Cup I Competition. In their debut ride at Intermediare I, Carol and Strutt performed an accurate and correct test to be awarded a 64% from judge Margaret Freeman. They stood second in a class of six competitors. The pair look forward to repeating their success in May at Canterbury.

WOODFIELD FARM WELCOMES JESSIE

Woodfield Farm is happy to welcome Jessie (Art Nouveux TW) recently acquired by Jan Maxwell of Orlando, Florida. Jessie has acquired many awards in her 7 years. No doubt due to her striking good looks, exceptional temperament and talent in the show arena. Just this year she earned two Reserve Championships at the Arabian Regional Championships in Perry, Georgia.

Good luck to Jan and Jessie. Many Happy Trails!

Woodfield Farm sadly announces the passing of our beloved Marley Mackenzie on January 20th, 2008. Dispite the best care possible at the Peterson Smith Clinic, Marley succumbed to a prolonged bout of colic. Marley was 17 years old. George Daher acquired Marley in November, 2003. During those five years Marley was a generous and dependable teacher, friend and competitor. Carol Bulmer and Marley competed at the 4th level and had just advanced to the Prix St. George when tragedy struck. George and Marely partnered, competing in Tampa and receiving a 64% at First Level at Tampa Fairgrounds in 2006.

Marley showed how confident and strong a horse can be in adversity when she lost her eye to an eye infection in early 2005. Just a couple months after losing the eye, Carol and Marley competed successfully at Tampa at 4th Level as if nothing was different. Marley was featured in the October 2006 Dressage Connections Magazine.

Marley loved to show off at a competition or go for a trail ride. She was unflappable even if her rider was not. Marley’s strong sturdy draft horse frame and shiny black coat were a common sight at most local dressage shows where she had many admirers.

She will be missed.

WOODFIELD FARM IS NEW HOME TO STRUTT

George Daher in partnership with Carol Bulmer recently purchased Strutt, a 14 year old Hanoverian/TB cross mare. Strutt and Bulmer partnered at their first show at Fourth Level Test 2 and 3 at the May Day Qualifyer achieving two Second Places and 60%. They look forward to competing at the Summer Sizzlers at Canterbury at 4th and Prix St. George.

WOODFIELD FARM WELCOMES CAVALIER

Handsome Cavalier is a four year old,16 hand bay Draft/TB cross gelding owned by Christine O'Neal of Orlando, Florida. Cavalier is an active, curious and mischievious addition to the Woodfield Farm family.

Congratulations George And Marley!

Marley, George & Barn Friends, Jan and Sally Maxwell

Woodfield Farm is happy to congratulate George Daher and his equine partner Marley Mackenzie on receiving a 64% at the Sunburn Classic Dressage Show in Tampa on August 26th, 2006!

Although George has been to some unrecognized shows, this was the first recognized dressage show that George and Marley participated in. “I knew that we were ready to take the step up to recognized competition but I did not expect a 64% and a blue ribbon!” George commented during the after ride celebration back at the stalls. "Now I need to start looking at the second level tests. Oh, boy.” (George looked a little apprehensive but pleased by that prospect.)

Look for George and Marley at future shows. Stop in and say hello!

Woodfield Farm welcomes Carol Kossoff and Blazac!

Carol Kossoff and her 17 hand Swedish Warmblood, Blazac reciently moved up from the West Palm Beach area.

“Balzac is a very well trained FEI schoolmaster and I intend on improving my riding while have a lot of fun!” Carol explained. “Maybe we can even get to show this winter!”

From the look on both of their faces in the picture I think they already are having fun!

Congratulations to Carol Bulmer and Marley MacKenzie!!

Woodfield Farm is proud to announce that Carol Bulmer and Marley MacKenzie were awarded Central Florida Dressage Association Fourth Level Champion 2005!!!

This award culminates a year of ups and downs for the duo. In February 2005 Marley suffered stromal abcesses of the eye and had her left eye removed.

Four months later Marley re-entered the competiton arena at fourth level, winning the class and achieving a 63%!!!

In July, Marley racked up more wins at dressage at Canterbury earning another 63% and two 61%s!

While competing at the SDCTA classic in Tampa, August 27th, Marley earned an astounding 65% and proceeded to prove it was no fluke with another 65% at Dressage At Canterbury II!!!

Marley exhibits every day a greatness of spirit and unparalelled confidence in her riders as she continues to improve in her performance unhindered.

Look for Marley to enter Prix St. George this year with Carol. Watch for George to show schooling shows as well in 2006!!

Remonte and Carol
CONGRATULATIONS!

George Daher recently bought another horse. “Remonte” was found in Holland and imported in January 2006. Remonte is a Dutch Warmblood, 7 years old, bay gelding, 16 hands. Remonte is trained to the 4th level. Remonte joins “Marley MacKenzie” in training with Carol at Woodfield Farm. Look for them in the show arena this spring!

Horse Buying Trip To The Netherlands

Many of you know George Daher’s black half draft horse that Carol has been competing at fourth level. George decided that he wanted a second horse. A price range and horse wish list was decided on and the game was afoot. After several disapointments looking in the United States we were open to looking abroad. Henrietta "Jette" Borst-Eppenauer put us in touch with her friend in the Netherlands, Joke Bruggeman.

Joke (Yo Kah) kept an eye out for the “horse matching the description” for several months and came up with a likely suspect and several more nice prospects that might interest us. There was a flurry of airfare, passport and home arrangements and then we were on the seven hour flight to Amsterdam.

Cold, cold, cold and rain. Well, enough of the weather report. No one in Holland seems to mind or notice that there was only 15 minutes of sun each day so why should I complain? The people were warm and friendly and Joke couldn’t have been a better tour guide/ horse agent. Joke took care of the bed and breakfast, car rental and horse appointments with skill and good cheer.

George and Carol in Holland

I had 36 hours of little to no sleep and was less than four hours in Holland but I was trying out the first horse. No matter what other languages you speak, the language of horse is always to same. Remonte was everything we were looking for.

In the succeeding days I stood in my six layers of clothing, seeing many nice horses and riding the likely ones. We admired the quality of the horses, the riding and the training at all the farms Joke took us to.

Driving through Holland, we passed a succession of quaint and uniform farms with their ruthlessly organized gardens. The houses and the barns were under one roof. You walked out the mudroom into the barn proper and there were your horses! Horses, cattle, chickens and agricultural fields were side by side with non-horse people houses.

With the rain falling softly and the temperatures at 32o Fahrenheit, natives rode their horses, walked their dogs, walked with long poles in each hand for exercise and pedaled bicycles with sedate purpose as if it were a sunny, warm day!

The barns we saw were neat and well organized. The horses neatly braided and clipped. Horses were brought out quickly and efficiently as soon as we arrived. Invitations of “drink some coffee with us” usually were offered after horse inspection. The coffee was superior and was usually offered in a warm room, I rarely turned that invitation down. Most everyone spoke enough English to be understood. There was an interesting diversity in footing components. Turnouts were mostly small for the show horses and two strands of the “hot tape” were commonly used to keep the horses in place.

We spent a couple hours one Sunday afternoon watching a small show at one indoor arena. The Z level tests were roughly equivalent to 4th level and were the “short versions” of about 5 minutes. The viewing room was warm, we had coffee and treats while the horses passed by on the other side of the windows, blowing steam from their noses and sometimes giving “a little look” at us on the other side of the window. The scoring was quite strict with only a few horses getting in the 60’s… and these were nice horses ridden well!

Five days in the Netherlands horse shopping was a terrific experience! Both George and I would do it again, but in the summer time!
